Acting responsibly: Our commitment to greater sustainability

With an European Green Deal, the EU Commission has called for a comprehensive programme that is intended to make the EU climate-neutral by 2050. By focusing on contacting and insulation solutions for the generation, transport and distribution of electrical energy, PFISTERER is contributing economically and technically suitable solutions to the implementation of the energy turnaround - and thus one of the main pillars of the Green Deal. At the same time, PFISTERER strives for sustainability in its own actions.

PFISTERER's employees and management take their social responsibility into account in several respects: on the one hand, they are among the enablers of the energy transition that is required worldwide, and on the other hand, they also play an active role in the Green Deal in their own direct working environment by shaping our behaviour and working methods.
We have formulated and communicated ambitious goals and are overwhelmed by the positive response and the willingness to participate on the part of our workforce. Specifically, we pursue sustainability goals in context.

  • of the environment, a reduction of the specific CO₂ footprint (Scope 1 + 2) by ⅔ to ⅓ of the 2020 value by 2030. We plan to reduce our specific water consumption by more than ⅔ and that of specific waste by ⅓ by 2025.
  • of social aspects, a reduction in our lost time due to lost work (LTIR) by 10% annually and by more than ⅔ by 2025. In addition, we are striving to increase the proportion of female team members in the PFISTERER Group and to increase our further training measures.
  • of governance, the early identification of any corporate risks through the continued professionalization of our risk management and internal auditing process. We train our strict code of conduct using modern digital systems and oblige our suppliers to comply with the PFISTERER Code of Conduct.

News in the matter of sustainability

The CONNEX pluggable connection system from PFISTERER has been successfully certified by Siemens Energy for use in 420 kV Clean Air switchgears. PFISTERER is the first manufacturer to be certified for this application and is thus making an important contribution to environmentally friendly energy transmission.

Within TenneT’s DolWin6 network connection project, the DolWin kappa offshore platform was successfully installed off the coast of Lower Saxony. In future, it will transform the alternating current (AC) from three wind farms from 155 kV to 362 kV and subsequently to 320 kV direct current (DC) and then transmit it to land almost without losses. For this, the platform is the first to have gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). This was preceded by the successful high voltage testing of the HV installation by PFISTERER in Cádiz, Spain. The transmission network operator TenneT is once again using PFISTERER’s CONNEX inner cone high voltage fittings.

TenneT, a transmission network operator, tasked PFISTERER with developing a universal repair joint for submarine cables. The one-size-fits-all solution is designed to fix cable faults quickly and efficiently with minimal inventory costs – whatever the cable type or manufacturer. This is the first time in the world that a solution of this scope will be realised. For the transmission network operator, it creates completely new opportunities for inventory management and submarine cable repairs.

PFISTERER Kontaktsysteme GmbH has improved in the EcoVadis 2021 sustainability ratings by 25 points to reach 63. This takes PFISTERER to the top 12 percent of the companies reviewed. This is the result of constant efforts in the areas of ethics, employment conditions and environmental protection.

Spanish grid operator i-DE Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes, member of the Iberdrola Group, is using the advantages of the new oil and gas free retrofit terminations from PFISTERER for the renewal of its network infrastructure. They allow the existing cable to be retained when ageing terminations are replaced. Easy to install, they also safeguard the environment in the long term.

PFISTERER is currently installing the longest underground 110 KV XLPE cable system in Rhineland-Palatinate. The new cable route by network operator Westnetz is almost 18 kilometres long and transports regenerative electricity from wind turbines in the Hunsrück region to the conurbations of the region.
